Using Handbid AI to write item descriptions and enhance photos

This guide shows you how to use Handbid AI to write item descriptions and clean up item photos automatically, without leaving the Auction Manager. It’s for auction managers setting up or polishing an auction.

Handbid AI covers three jobs that normally eat the most setup time:

  • Generate item descriptions — write a description from a short prompt, then edit it until it sounds like your organization.
  • Enhance item photos — resize, crop, and clean up an image in one click, either on a single item or in bulk across an auction.
  • Save custom prompts — store the prompts your team likes so descriptions stay consistent from auction to auction.
  • Handbid AI enabled on your organization by your CSM.
  • Manager access to the auction.
  • Available AI credits on your organization. If you have none, you’ll see a quota message instead of a result.

In the Auction Manager, go to Items, then open the item you want a description for.

In the description field, select Generate with AI. A modal opens where you enter your prompt.

Describe the item in plain language — what it is, who it appeals to, and any details worth highlighting (a restaurant name, a trip length, an artist). The more specific the prompt, the less editing you’ll do afterward.

Select Generate. The description appears in the modal. Edit it directly — the generated text is a starting point, not a final answer. Check names, dates, dollar values, and restrictions yourself before saving.

Apply the description and save the item.

Open the item and go to its image.

Select Enhance with AI. The button shows a loading state while the image is processed — wait for it to finish rather than selecting it again, which would stack another enhancement on top.

The modal refreshes with the enhanced version. If you don’t like it, you can re-upload the original image and try again.

If you’re importing many items at once, the bulk image uploader can enhance images as part of the import, so you don’t have to open each item individually.

If your team has a house voice, save the prompt that produces it. Saved prompts are available the next time anyone on your organization generates a description, so item copy stays consistent across auctions and across staff.

  • The item description field contains the generated text and saves normally.
  • The item image displays the enhanced version on the item detail page as a bidder would see it.
  • “Image enhancement quota exceeded” — your organization is out of AI credits for the period. Contact your CSM to review your allowance.
  • The Enhance button seems stuck — enhancement takes a few seconds. Wait for the loading state to clear before selecting it again.
  • The description is generic — add more detail to your prompt. Item type, value, and the audience you’re writing for make the biggest difference.
