# Adding an Item After the Auction is Open

If you have to add an item to your auction ***after***  it opens,  Handbid will initially place the item in a **pending** status. We do this to make sure that your item is not accidentally bid on before you are ready to open it. Since Handbid is a real-time system, adding an item and changing the item status to OPEN, will make it available to bidders on the app and online.
